James Coughlin
Congratulations to Social Studies Education major, James Coughlin, for receiving the College of Education Professionalism Award. This award is open to all students at any level in any education program, including graduate students. To receive the Professionalism Award, a student must demonstrate a set of values and attitudes consistent with the highest professional standards. The values and attitudes must be demonstrated in concrete ways in their interactions with members of the faculty, school personnel, and P-12 pupils.

The Department of History recognizes James for his commitment to learning, his preparation for class, his readiness to ask questions, and his eager and active commitment to taking responsibility for his own education. Beyond his excellent academic performance, James is friendly, engaging, curious, helpful, and often participates in activities outside of class. His leadership of the History Club reflects his organizational and professional commitment. As president, he recently organized the participation of five members of the club as judges in History Day, a competition which allows Fredonia to reach out to local middle and high school students, promoting their engagement with history and establishing an early connection between them and the college. James volunteered to help judge websites, a commitment which requires an additional bit of preparation in the days before the competition. James also exhibits a similar level of professionalism as the Secretary to the Student Association's Supreme Court.
James will receive the award in a ceremony held by the College of Education on Wednesday, May 14th in the Williams Center.
