  1. How do I participate in the program?

Come to the ITS Service Center located on the 2nd floor of Thompson Hall and complete an application.

  2. Are there any restrictions on these devices?

Yes, students will need to bring their loaner laptop to the ITS Service Center to have software installed or updated as needed.

  3. Are there any fees or payment options?

No payment plans, financial aid adjustments, or lease-to-own agreements are required.

  4. What if my laptop gets damaged or needs repair?

Bring the device directly to the ITS Service Center on the 2nd Floor of Thompson Hall (716-673-3407). The ITS team handles in-house repairs. If your repair takes extended time, you will be issued a temporary service loaner.

  5. Can I keep the laptop over breaks?

Laptops are issued on a monthly basis. If you are registered for the following semester, you may request a term extension through the ITS Service Center to the end-of-semester deadline rather than turning in the device.

  6. Will I still receive support for my purchased laptop through this program before this change?

Yes, the ITS Service Center will continue to support you while you have the purchased laptop.

  7. What should I do if I am leaving campus or withdrawing?

    ITS Service Center
    2nd Floor, Thompson Hall
    SUNY Fredonia
    280 Central Ave
    Fredonia, NY 14063

Failure to return the device upon departure will result in immediate financial holds on student records and billing for the full replacement cost of the laptop.

All students participating in the FRED Laptop Program must agree to the following terms and conditions prior to receiving equipment:

  1. Ownership & Title: I understand that the equipment is the property of SUNY Fredonia. I do not own the equipment; I am granted a temporary, non-transferable license to use the laptop for one academic semester.
  2. Term of Agreement: This agreement commences on the date of issuance and ends on the designated semester termination date (the final day of the current semester, the date prior to graduation, or the date I cease attending SUNY Fredonia, whichever comes first). Laptops must be returned or renewed at the end of each semester to ensure they are serviced.
  3. Failure to Return & Financial Obligations: If I fail to return the equipment by the required semester termination date, I understand that I am subject to State University of New York (SUNY) collection policies under New York State Finance Law Section 18. I may face civil liability and will be assessed the full replacement cost of the equipment, collection fees, and late fees. Returned equipment must be in good working condition (normal wear and tear excepted). Returning equipment late does not discharge accrued late/replacement assessments.
  4. Authorized Use: The equipment is for my sole academic use and may not be lent, assigned, sold, pledged, or transferred to any third party. I will abide by all SUNY Fredonia acceptable use policies.
  5. Repairs & Modifications: All repairs, updates, and maintenance must be performed exclusively by the SUNY Fredonia ITS Service Center. I am strictly prohibited from opening the casing, disassembling the hardware, performing personal upgrades, or taking the device to third-party repair services. Unauthorized modifications will result in financial liability for all restoration costs.
  6. Theft or Loss Reporting: Any incident of theft must be reported immediately to local law enforcement (or University Police) within 24 hours of discovery (including submitting a copy of the official police report). I understand that I am financially responsible for the full replacement value of the device in the event of loss or theft.
  7. Risk of Loss & Liability Disclaimers: I assume all risk of loss, damage, theft, or destruction from the time of delivery until the laptop is returned to the ITS Service Center. I assume all risks related to data loss, malware, or security breaches while using the device. ALL EQUIPMENT AND SOFTWARE ARE PROVIDED “AS-IS.” SUNY FREDONIA DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.
