The selection committee for the Carnahan Jackson Fund for the Humanities is now accepting requests for proposals. The application deadline for the 2024-2025 award cycle is Friday, Oct. 27.

The fund was established with the Fredonia College Foundation by David H. Carnahan and the Carnahan Jackson Foundation of Jamestown in 1993. The intent of the gift was to support events that enrich the cultural life of the university and include opportunities for community involvement.

Guidelines stipulate that the award should fund activities that have an impact on the campus and in the Chautauqua County/western New York region.

Considering the goal of cultural enrichment, a variety of activities could be funded within the humanities. Some examples include visiting artist, scholar or performer; artist, poet or novelist in residence; sponsorship of an on campus event by a touring group or individual; matching funds for a larger grant in keeping with the fund's objectives; or students coming to campus to experience an on campus presentation.

It is also essential that activities funded by the Carnahan Jackson Fund for the Humanities have an element of community involvement, community participation or public performance. Proposals for activities or events that involve or benefit more than one campus constituency will be favored. It is highly recommended that all requests for proposals include a degree of flexibility to allow for “remote” programming appropriate to a particular discipline, event and/or activity.

Questions about the 2024-2025 award cycle should be directed to Director of Development Tim Murphy in the Fredonia College Foundation office at (716) 673-3321 or via email
