Beck choreographer of program at Philadelphia’s Performance Garage
Terry Beck, an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Theatre and Dance, was one of five choreographers of “Zero to Sixty: A Journey from Then to Now,” a showcase of new and resurrected works staged on Oct. 4 and 5 at the Performance Garage in Philadelphia.
The program of dance, music and memories included a tribute to Hellmut Gottschild, founder and director of ZeroMoving Dance Company and former faculty member of Temple University, Mr. Beck’s alma mater.
Beck also gave the premiere performance of a new solo, “Harbour,” which continues a group work of dance that he created for Rubicon Dance in Cardiff, Wales. Music for “Harbour” was written by Dr. David Rudge of the School of Music. Dr. Nick Weiser and Kieran Hanlon, both also of the School of Music, recorded and arranged the music for the song “Is that All There is?” that Beck sang.
The five artists – which included Renee Banson, Lisa Bardarson, Patty Veit and Christine Vilardo – have a deep connection to ZeroDance, having been inspired and influenced by Mr. Gottschild’s teaching and creative process. They are either current or retired dance faculty members at Philadelphia-area universities.
The Performance Garage complex, located in a 19th century horse stable and carriage house in Philadelphia’s Spring Garden neighborhood, aspires to become a one-stop shop where dancers and companies can work on their art and broaden their audience.
