The Fredonia Brown Bag Lunch Series will present Associate Professor Peter Tucker on “Creative Placemaking.”

The event, the final in the Fredonia Brown Bag Lunch Series for the year, will take place on Wednesday, May 6, at noon, in Williams Center Rooms S204-ABC. Associate Professor Tucker is from the Department of Visual Arts and New Media.

In his presentation, Tucker will discuss his recent work, which includes forms made from storm-felled trees. The talk will explore how we create meaning from materials, offering insights into connecting to place through making and materials.

Tucker will explore the theme of Creative Placemaking by providing simple hands-on project ideas and give examples of how he connects his work to his community by making objects from locally collected wood.  Tucker will explore how we embed meaning and power into objects so that the artwork becomes meaningful to both the artist and the viewer.

Tucker specializes in woodworking, with particular interests in creative placemaking and relational aesthetics. He had work in the recent Sylvia L. Rosen Craft Art Biennial at the Burchfield Penney in Buffalo, NY, and won a fellowship to the Haystack Mountain School of Craft. He is also a recipient of the New York State Creative Impact Fund Award.

The Fredonia Brown Bag Lunch Series offers monthly informal talks by SUNY Fredonia faculty and is supported by Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Andy Karafa, the Faculty Student Association for refreshments, and the Carnahan Jackson Fund for the Humanities through the Fredonia College Foundation.
