Fredonia will join a national movement to end sexual assault by providing an opportunity for students, faculty and staff to take the “It’s On Us” pledge, showing their support to end sexual violence, on Thursday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the McEwen Hall lobby.

“‘It’s On Us’ asks everyone – students, community leaders, parents, organizations and companies – to step up and realize that the conversation changes with us,” said Julie Bezek, who is Prevention, Advocacy and Wellness Coordinator at the campus Counseling Center.

The “It’s On Us” pledge consists of four elements: to recognize that non-consensual sex is sexual assault; to identify situations in which sexual assault may occur; to intervene in situations where consent has not or cannot be given; and to create an environment in which sexual assault is unacceptable and survivors are supported.

“It’s On us” was launched in 2014 following recommendations from the White House Task Force to Prevent Sexual Assault that called attention to the importance of engaging everyone in the conversation to end sexual violence.

Sponsors of Fredonia’s “It’s On Us” campaign include the Counseling Center, Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Students Teaching Equals Positive Sexuality and Fredonia Feminists.
