A team of students committed to making a difference has partnered with Sunnking Electronics to put old electronics to good use.

On March 1, from noon to 3 p.m. at University Commons, a team from ENACTUS GreenWave will be hosting a “Sell Your Tech” event. Students, faculty and community members will have the opportunity to drop off their old electronic devices for recycling. Sunnking  may be able to give financial compensation to individuals with items that are less than five years old and in good condition by purchasing them on consignment.

“The ‘Sell Your Tech’ team believes that students and faculty should take advantage of this event because, on average, Americans throw away more than nine million tons of e-waste annually,” said Austin Klosner, a junior Marketing major and member of ENACTUS. “Further, according to the [Environmental Protection Agency], only 12 percent of e-waste actually gets recycled. Our event, and others like ours at universities around the state, allow people an easy outlet to rid themselves of their unneeded tech.”

Due to his work with Sunnking, an organization committed to repurposing dispensable devices, Klosner is confident in the group’s ability to serve the community.

“Sunnking has high standards for data destruction and was the first e-waste recycling facility to receive R2 certification, which basically means they not only have very high recycling standards, but also practice environmentally-friendly activities, such as emissions reduction,” he said.
