Does your student organization or campus department have a great idea for a fun-filled activity that’ll delight guests at Family and Friends Weekend?

Then Campus Life wants to hear from you!

Campus Life is inviting student organizations and clubs, staff, administrators and campus departments to climb aboard Family and Friends Weekend by hosting an event on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, Oct. 27, 28 and 29. The goals of the special weekend are to offer quality programming, to introduce families to a wide array of campus resources and activities, and to provide a welcoming, fun and memorable weekend, explains Office of Campus Life Associate Director Rachel Martin.

“We are looking for departments and/or student organizations to host an event for students and their guests to enjoy particularly on Saturday and Sunday. Events can be free or ticketed, on campus or off campus,” Ms. Martin said.

A welcome dinner hosted by Campus Life launches the weekend on Friday, Oct. 27, at 6 p.m., in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room. Partnering with School of Music Associate Professor Jill Reese, the dinner will include a participatory, karaoke-style ukulele jam. Tickets will be available online beginning in late August.

Some ideas for student clubs and organizations and campus departments to consider, Martin suggests, include:

•    Department mingle, with refreshments and conversation;

•    Tour of a particular area, such as the backstage of a theatre or behind-the-scenes of an art studio;

•    Activities, such as performances, athletic events, competitions, family hiking, painting and pumpkin carving, to name just a few;

•    Presentations of research and/or laboratory activity.

Students, clubs and organizations, faculty and staff are asked to submit their event proposals via email by Friday, Sept. 1, so they can be added to the Family and Friends Weekend website.
