Greek Life conference slated for Feb. 29 to feature speaker on hazing

A Greek Life conference is scheduled in the Williams Center on Saturday, Feb. 29, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., for members of all Greek organizations at Fredonia.

The keynote address will be given at 9 a.m. by Kathleen Wiant, who will be introduced by Vice President for Enrollment and Student Services Cedric Howard. Ms. Wiant’s son 18-year-old son Collin, died from hazing a little over a year ago. To learn more about Collin's story, click on the Columbus Dispatch story.

Workshops following the address will feature the following topics: conflict resolution, leadership and personality, Roberts Rules of Order/running effective meeting and motivation/teamwork.

Experiential workshops, including debriefings, will be led by Dr. Susan McNamara of the School of Business, Residence Director Tracy Halloran, and current Student Association President Jillian Beard and past president Seth Meyer.

Mark Suida, director of Campus Life and the Greek organization advisor, will be presenting a motivation/teamwork workshop, and is the conference organizer.

Students participating will be from Sigma Kappa, Sigma Phi Epsilon, Alpha Phi Omega, Delta Chi, Delta Phi Epsilon, Kappa Sigma, Sigma Gamma Phi and Alpha Psi Lambda.

Yan Jiang named recipient of SUNY’s McConney award

Yan Jiang, a SUNY Fredonia sophomore double major in Public Accountancy and Business Administration-Finance, was one of 52 students from throughout the State University of New York selected to receive the Norman R. McConney Jr. Award for Student Excellence.
