Caitlin Tully and Daniel Cherry.
Caitlin Tully is the May 2025 Honors Student of the Month.
A Music Education major, Ms. Tully was nominated for the honor by Daniel Cherry, ’85, the front-of-house coordinator for the Michael C. Rockefeller Arts Center. He supervises the Usher Corps, where Tully has rapidly risen through the ranks from usher to one of several house managers.
In Mr. Cherry’s nomination, he notes that he is impressed by how much “Caitlin has grown in her position. She is not afraid to take on new tasks and she is willing to learn. She also has good problem-solving skills: she has had to deal with issues 'in the moment' at performances and she uses common sense to resolve challenges.”
Additionally, in her capacity as a House Manager, Tully now trains new members of the team and, as Cherry notes, “She is kind, respectful and detailed oriented. I can count on her to be on time and ready to take on any task. She frequently interacts with the public and she is respectful to all people from diverse backgrounds. She is respected by student ushers, our community ushers, and the team at the Rockefeller Arts Center.”
Tully enjoys the opportunities the role affords her to give the preshow talk to the community and student ushers, since she gets to interact with and communicate with many different people to get production information and then communicate that information to the usher team. She also prizes the close-knit music community at Fredonia and “the positive Honors community at Fredonia and the in-depth learning we get to do in Honors courses,” including in her all-time favorite Honors class: MUED 251 Psychology and Sociology in Music Education with Dr. Richard Webb. She encourages fellow Honors students to “take advantage of your Honors perks (Honors housing, events, etc.)! Some of my best memories wouldn't have happened had I not applied for the Honors Program.”
A graduate of Colonie (NY) Central High School, Tully says her goal for now is to “make the most of all of [her] experiences here at SUNY Fredonia.” She is currently also involved actively with the American String Teachers Association (ASTA) and hopes to study abroad at some point. When she graduates, she looks forward to “becoming a strings teacher, traveling, and helping to make the world a better place!”
Tully wishes to thank “the School of Music faculty for inspiring me every day and Dan for kindly nominating me!”
The Honors Student of the Month Program is a collaboration between the Honors Program and Honors House, which is part of the Office of Residence Life. The student selected by the committee as the Honors Student of the Month receives a gift card to the University Bookstore and a certificate. In addition, the student’s name is engraved on a plaque that hangs in the Office of Residence Life.
