Cesar Firmat, a senior from Bronx, NY, was named January Student of the Month by the Office of Residence Life.
A Computer Science major with a minor in Spanish, Mr. Firmat is a student worker with Information Technology Services (ITS) and also an Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) Student Ambassador.
“This student is the most outstanding student to ever work at ITS. He has been working with ITS for three years. In our minds, he is not a student worker; he is a professional staff member. He will be sorely missed when he graduates,” said IT Service Delivery Manager Mark Mackey.

Firmat's favorite things about Fredonia are “its beauty in the summer and even in winter if you take the time to look and listen.”
“The people of Fredonia, with their ‘good mornings,’ were one of the first things I have noticed and [are] still one of my favorite things. The last things are the opportunities that Fredonia gave me in learning how to be independent and just growing in life and my professional life.”
“Cesar is also the EOP Student Ambassador for Fredonia, a role he had to interview with through the state and a role that he's had for two years. Most ambassadors only have the role for one year. Even with all of extra duties and work, he still finds time to keep his studies up with a 3.7 GPA,” explained Mr. Mackey, who nominated Firmat for the award.
Before graduating, Firmat plans to take advantage of every resource that SUNY Fredonia has to offer. His future goal is to work at a help desk in a school system so “I am not just working at some desk but have the chance to give the youth opportunities like others have done for me."
The Student of the Month program was implemented in 2003 to recognize students who are well-rounded, excel in their academics and contribute positively to the campus and community.
