Studying water quality in Honduras will be the core subject of a talk by SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor Ted Lee.

The presentation, based on Dr. Lee’s Fulbright award activity during the Spring 2025 semester, will be given in Science Center Room 126 on Friday, Sept. 19, at 3 p.m.

Lee will address the effectiveness of different water filters and water purification systems and the identification of bacteria present in water. Key recommendations developed by Lee include working with community members, collaborating with a point person to assist with the work and stressing the importance of hand washing to prevent contamination of drinking water. The presentation is free.

“We are working with one of our host organizations (Sociedad Amigos de los Ninos) to implement additional water purification steps and hand washing,” Lee added. Sociedad Amigos de los Ninos has hosted medical and water brigades that Lee has conducted with students.

Lee has conducted three student medical brigades and has visited Honduras a total of 15 times, starting in 2017. In addition to the Fulbright Scholar Award, Lee’s research was partially funded by the Dr. Diane Pennica Biology Faculty Research Award through the Fredonia College Foundation.
