Free ice cream and assorted camp games, the first of more than 12 planned Meet-Ups – low-risk, organic, informal and mostly free of charge ways to connect with fellow students – will be held on move-in day, Thursday, Aug. 19, beginning at 7 p.m., outside Chautauqua Hall, near the sand volleyball court.

The outdoor games include Kan Jam, cornhole and sand volleyball.

Other “meet-ups” include:

  • “Ball Out,” featuring pick-up basketball and tennis, will be played on Friday, Aug. 20, at 7 p.m. at the outdoor tennis and basketball courts, near Dods Hall. Students of all skill abilities – and novices, too – can bring their own gear if they wish, but a few basketballs, tennis rackets and balls will be provided. Gatorade and granola bars will be available.
  • “Make Your Own Door Decoration” will be held on Friday, starting at 8 p.m., at the Disney Hall craft room. A Cricut machine that can cut all sorts of designs from paper, vinyl, card stock and iron-on transfers, as well as art supplies, will be provided.
  • A student walk to the Fredonia farmers market on Saturday, Aug. 21, will begin at noon outside of Starbucks. This downtown tradition offers crafts and fresh fruit and vegetables. Free tote bags will be given to the first 10 students to arrive.
  • The Schulz Hall eSports Lounge will open on Saturday, Aug. 21, at 2 p.m. Computers have been updated with the latest games and software, and there’s also space to play video games.
  • Fredonia’s version of en plein air, a free-form style of outdoor painting, will be held on Sunday, Aug. 22, beginning at 7 p.m., on the grass area between Mason and Maytum halls and Reed Library. Small canvases, easels and paints will be provided.
  • “Jackbox Game Night” – featuring a modern offspring of games such as charades – will be staged on Sunday at 8 p.m., 103 Williams Center.
  • “Manhunt” – a game that closely resembles tag, played at night under the cover of darkness – will be played on Sunday at 7 p.m. Glow-in-the-dark bracelets will be given to participants to distinguish themselves from those who are not playing.
  • “Cards for a Cause,” a low-intensity service project where students write some kind words in a card for a cause, will be held on Monday, Aug. 30, at 7 p.m., in the Grissom Hall smart classroom. Doughnuts will be served.
  • “Succulent Bingo,” featuring horticultural-themed prizes for winners, will be played on Friday, Sept. 3, at 7 p.m., in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room.
  • An introductory aerobics class, taught by skilled instructors, will be held on Monday, Sept. 13, at 4 p.m. in the Hemingway Hall Aerobic Center.
  • Classic card games, along with some newer, spicier games such as Exploding Kittens, will be held on Thursday, Sept. 23, at 7 p.m., at Starbucks. Attendees will pay for their own drinks, though three Starbucks gift cards will be given away as door prizes.
  • Assorted board games will be played simultaneously and s’mores served on Wednesday, Sept. 29, at 8 p.m. in the Alumni Hall main lounge.

Meet-ups, a Fredonia tradition since 2015, are open to all students and are sponsored by Residence Life and partially funded by the Faculty Student Association. Most events are offered free of charge. More details are available on the Fredonia events calendar and meet-ups website.
