Dr. Allison Manning published a research note titled, “Perceptions of Classroom Learning and Clinical Preparedness Among Speech-Language Pathology Graduate Students.”

Dr. Manning is an assistant professor in the Department of Communication Disorders and Sciences, and a SUNY Fredonia alumna. The note appeared in Perspectives of the ASHA Special Interest Groups. Perspectives is an online, peer-reviewed scholarly review journal of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).

The research note discusses the impact course design and teaching methods have on how students learn and prepare for clinical practice. Findings suggested that including student perspectives in course and curriculum design can help support speech-language pathology programs that foster strong student outcomes, clinical confidence and professional competence.

The work is based on a dissertation research study completed in 2025 at the State University at Buffalo. Manning is presenting on the same topic — a 30-minute presentation — at the ASHA convention in November in Indianapolis IN.
