The Carnahan Jackson Fund for the Humanities (CJHF) is now accepting proposals for the 2026–2027 funding cycle.

The deadline to submit applications is Friday, Oct. 24.

Established in 1993 within the Fredonia College Foundation, the CJHF was created by businessman and philanthropist David H. Carnahan and the Carnahan Jackson Foundation of Jamestown, NY. Mr. Carnahan, who served as chairman of the foundation, was also an active member of numerous civic boards throughout Chautauqua County, including the Fredonia College Foundation.

The fund supports events and initiatives that enrich the cultural life of the university and promote community involvement. Funded activities should primarily benefit the Fredonia campus and the broader Chautauqua County-western New York region.

Eligible Activities

A wide range of humanities-focused programming may be considered for funding, including but not limited to:
•    Hosting a visiting artist, scholar, or performer 
•    Artist, poet, or novelist residencies 
•    Sponsorship of on-campus events by touring groups or individuals 
•    Matching funds for larger grants aligned with the fund’s mission 
•    Student visits to campus for cultural presentations

Proposal Guidelines

Proposals that demonstrate:
•    Community participation, public performance, or outreach 
•    Collaboration across multiple campus constituencies 
•    Flexibility for remote or hybrid programming 
will be given priority consideration.
