Seven Fredonia State student-athletes representing five varsity sports will serve on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Executive Board during the 2026-27 academic year, helping provide leadership and advocacy for Blue Devil student-athletes while promoting engagement throughout the athletic department.
Leading the executive board is senior Olivia Boswell (women's volleyball), from Pendleton, NY, majoring in Childhood Inclusive Education. Boswell will serve as president of the organization, which is comprised of representatives from each of Fredonia State's varsity teams.
Serving alongside Boswell are senior Jinan Clark (women's soccer) of Webster, NY, majoring in Exercise Science, as vice president; junior Nick Vitelli (baseball) of Oakland, NJ, majoring in Finance, as treasurer; and junior Maeve Musielak (women's volleyball) of Eden, NY, majoring in Biology, as secretary.
The board also includes senior Hannah Retzer (women's soccer) of Getzville, NY, majoring in Early Childhood/Childhood Education, as community relations coordinator; sophomore Amelia Lefevre (women's lacrosse) of Auburn, NY, majoring in Early Childhood/Childhood Education, as social media coordinator; and sophomore Jocelyn Gudyka (women's soccer) of Webster, NY, majoring in Exercise Science and Psychology, as the board's alternate representative.
While each member brings experience from their respective teams, their responsibilities extend beyond their individual sports. As executive board members, they serve as representatives of the broader Fredonia State student-athlete community and help guide initiatives designed to enhance the student-athlete experience.
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee serves as a unified voice for student-athletes in communications with coaches and athletic administrators. The organization seeks to improve the student-athlete experience through leadership opportunities, student engagement, community service, campus involvement, and constructive feedback on athletic department issues.
SAAC also works to foster a sense of community among Blue Devil student-athletes while providing representation on campus-wide committees and promoting a positive image of Fredonia State student-athletes throughout the campus and local community.
According to SAAC co-advisors Tori Poffenberger, Fredonia State women's lacrosse head coach, and Brenda Dean, Fredonia State head athletic trainer, the committee provides student-athletes with opportunities to lead while representing the interests of their peers.
"SAAC allows student-athletes to have a voice not only within their team, but within the bigger picture of Fredonia," Poffenberger said. "These student-athletes want to be leaders within their programs and community and are committed to bettering the student-athlete experience at Fredonia and beyond by being involved with conference and national SAAC events and conferences."
Through service initiatives, campus engagement, and communication with coaches and administrators, the executive board will work alongside representatives from each of Fredonia State's varsity teams to ensure student-athlete perspectives remain an important part of discussions affecting the athletic department.
As the 2026-27 academic year begins, the board's members will help carry out SAAC's mission of strengthening community, fostering leadership, and promoting a positive experience for Blue Devil student-athletes both on campus and beyond.
