Copies of the Holocaust memoir edited by senior Sivan Adler drew attention at the Modern Language Association (MLA) annual meeting.

Department of English Professor Birger Vanwesenbeeck shared copies of “Who Will Take Care of the Cat,” the memoir of Ms. Adler’s grandparents, with his co-panelists at the convention, Dr. Mark Gelber (Beer-Sheva University, Israel) and Martina Wörgötter-Peck (University of Salzburg, Austria).

Adler is a senior from Albany, NY, majoring in Acting and Gender & Ethnic Studies, with a minor in English.

The panel, which focused on translations of and by the Austrian-Jewish author Stefan Zweig, had significant interest in the memoir. The MLA provides opportunities for members to share their scholarly findings and teaching experiences with colleagues. Its annual meeting was held Jan. 8 in Toronto, Canada.

Following the meeting, Dr. Wörgötter-Peck also traveled to SUNY Fredonia to conduct research at the Reed Library's Zweig Collection.

The official book launch of “Who Will Take Care of the Cat” was held on campus last spring and included a reading by Adler and reception.
