Medicine abroad will be explored by Department of Biology Professor Ted Lee and two students in the first Brown Bag Lunch of the fall semester on Wednesday, Oct. 7, from noon to 1 p.m.

“The Health of the Nation” is the theme of the year’s informal series hosted by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Dr. Lee, who serves as chair of both the Department of Biology and Health Professions Advising Committee, will share his observations of health care systems operating in the Netherlands and Great Britain. He will be joined by two student co-presenters.

Brad Brown, a senior majoring in Biochemistry, will discuss his two J-Term experiences in Honduras, where he served on medical brigades that provide health care services to residents living in rural areas. Mr. Brown and fellow Fredonia students participated in medical intake and observed practitioners as they saw patients.

Elizabeth Hahn, a senior Biology major with a minor in Music: Applied, will describe the work of Partners in Health, an international organization that focuses on delivering health care to underserved populations. She helped to co-found a Partners in Health engage group at Fredonia.

Viewers of the Zoom presentation may ask questions of the participants.

Department of Communication Associate Professor Roslin Smith, who chairs the Brown Bag Lunch series, will give opening remarks.

Funding for the Brown Bag Lunch series is provided by the Carnahan Jackson Fund for the Humanities of the Fredonia College Foundation and Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Andy Karafa.

The Zoom session can be accessed online.
