Bassoonist Nadina Mackie Jackson Gives Recital October 2
The SUNY Fredonia School of Music presents a guest artist recital featuring bassoonist Nadina Mackie Jackson on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall. The recital is free and open to the public.
Nadina will be joined by Fredonia faculty I-Fei Chen (piano), Laura Koepke (bassoon), and members of the Fredonia bassoon studio. Works to be performed are by Alexandre Tansman, Luciano Berio, Marc Mellits, Antonio Vivaldi and Dan Kellogg.
Ms. Jackson will also give a master class that day at 3 p.m. in Mason Hall Room 1002.
Ms. Jackson records and performs worldwide on both modern and historical bassoons, has recorded 11 solo, concerto and chamber music CDs and can be heard on over 100 orchestral recordings on the London Decca, Sony, ATMA and Naxos labels. Her 2013/-14 season includes 36 solo appearances in recital and with orchestras across Canada, including three premiere performances of new concerti written for her.
Grammy-nominated recent solo releases on MSR Classics include the Vivaldi Concerti, Volume I with Nicholas McGegan (nominated for best solo/best producer) and Canadian Concerto Project, Volume (nominated for best instrumental/best contemporary composition) featuring concerti written expressly for her and Guy Few with Toronto’s Group of 27 led by Eric Paetkau. The series will continue with new recordings of concerti by Paul Frehener, Glenn Buhr and Alain Trudel.
She won "Best Classical Orchestral Album of the Year" with Guy Few and the Toronto Chamber Orchestra in the 2009 Just Plain Folks Music Awards for her FACTOR-backed concerto album Bacchanale and has received widespread praise for Romanza, the album of 19th century concerti.
Nadina has appeared as soloist with l’Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, Toronto Chamber Orchestra, Group of 27, Les Idées Heureuses (Montréal), Cayuga Chamber Orchestra (Ithaca, New York), the Grand River Baroque Festival Soloists, Prince George Symphony Orchestra and l’Orchestre Symphonique de Trois-Rivières and in 2013-14 will perform as concerto soloist with Group of Twenty-seven (Toronto), Orchestra London, Orchestra Toronto and the Okanagan Symphony. She regularly tours and performs across Canada and the United States in recital and as a concerto soloist with trumpeter/pianist Guy Few.
Immediately upon graduation from the Curtis Institute of Music in 1981, Nadina began her career with the Montreal Symphony. She is the principal bassoonist of the Toronto Chamber Orchestra, the Group of 27, the Aradia Baroque Ensemble and a regular guest with Violons du RoyReviews.
