Fredonia appoints two associate provosts

The State University of New York at Fredonia announces the appointments of Dr. Judith Horowitz as associate provost for Graduate Studies, Sponsored Research and Faculty Development, and Dr. Lisa Hunter as associate provost for Curriculum, Assessment and Academic Support. Both have extensive experience in higher education administration as well as the Greater Buffalo region.

Fredonia adds former Cliffstar headquarters to enhance Start-Up NY appeal

The Fredonia College Foundation has been gifted the 25,000-square-foot office building that served as headquarters for the Cliffstar Corporation prior to its sale to The Cott Corporation in 2010. The facility, a gift of the Star Family, was formally appraised in late 2013 as having a value of $1.65 million. University officials hope it will greatly enhance Fredonia's appeal for potential Start-Up NY entrepreneurs.

Elizabeth Praetorius named new Vice President of Finance and Administration

Fredonia has named Elizabeth Praetorius as its new Vice President for Finance and Administration. Ms. Praetorius has enjoyed a 25-year career that has been spent entirely within the State University of New York system, including the last four years as Chief Operating Officer and Vice President for Finance and Administration at SUNY Maritime College. She will begin in her new role on August 1.

Fredonia to offer stroke/head injury support sessions

Group support meetings for stroke and head injury survivors and their family members will be offered at the Henry C. Youngerman Center for Communication Disorders at the State University of New York at Fredonia on Tuesday, June 17 and July 15, at 3 p.m. in E148 Thompson Hall.

SUNY Fredonia / Fredonia State College moves to single name, unveils new visual identity

SUNY Fredonia has announced a new name and brand identity. Going forward, the university will be known officially as, “The State University of New York at Fredonia,” although in most contexts, it will be referred to simply as, “Fredonia.” The change comes in response to growing feedback, coupled with a year-long research effort led by faculty, staff, student and alumni representatives from across the university, which revealed a degree of inconsistency, and even some confusion, among certain target audiences.

Fredonia hosts Western New York economic development leaders

As part of its ongoing efforts to promote economic development and community engagement in the region, SUNY Fredonia’s Division of Engagement and Economic Development hosted the members of the Western New York Regional Economic Development Council (WNY REDC) for their regular meeting on May 29. The meeting was followed by a New York State Consolidated Funding Application (CFA) workshop.

As part of its ongoing efforts to promote economic development and community engagement in the region, SUNY Fredonia’s Division of Engagement and Economic Development will host the Western New York Regional Economic Development Council’s (WNY REDC) regular meeting followed by a New York State Consolidated Funding Application (CFA) workshop. The dual events are scheduled for Thursday, May 29, in the Williams Center.

Class of 2014 celebrates its success, potential

More than 1,400 students crossed the Steele Hall Arena stage today, receiving congratulations from President Virginia S. Horvath as they were conferred with degrees during the 187 th annual Commencement ceremony. “From this point, it’s up to you to show what Fredonians can do,” President Horvath told the Class of 2014. “We’re counting on you to use what you have learned, to continue to learn as new questions and technologies arise, and to represent your alma mater in all you do.”
