Busy weekend of athletics

Two of the top volleyball teams in the New York region will match up in Dods Hall this weekend, while the Battle by the Lake rivalry with SUNY Buffalo State will resume for both men's and women's soccer.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL -- Ithaca (15-1) travels to Fredonia to face the Blue Devils (14-3) is at 7 p.m. Friday during the Blue Devil Invitational. The Blue Devils are coming off their first weekend of SUNYAC Pool Play in which they went 2-1, defeating Plattsburgh and Buffalo State after dropping the opening match to New Paltz. Ithaca comes into the weekend on an 11-game win streak, their last defeat coming on Sept. 5 to Brockport. The Blue Devls also have two matches Saturday -- Hilbert at 10 a.m. and SUNY Canton at 12:30 p.m.

WOMEN'S SOCCER -- Two Battle by the Lake game points are at stake when Fredonia entertains Buffalo State at University Stadium. Game time is 1 p.m. Saturday. The Blue Devils are coming off their second win of the season after defeating St. John Fisher on Tuesday, 3-1.

MEN'S SOCCER -- Two more points in the Fredonia-Buffalo State rivalry will be awarded on the men's side when these two teams square off at 4 p.m. Saturday in Buffalo.

CROSS COUNTRY -- Both the men's and women's cross country teams will head to Letchworth State Park this weekend for the Mike Woods Invitational, hosted by SUNY Geneseo.

SWIMMING AND DIVING -- In their earliest calendar start in recent history, the swimming and diving teams will travel to Meadville, Pa. on Saturday to face Allegheny at 1 p.m.. The meet will consist only of sprint events for the swimmers.

On April 25, Dods Hall on the campus of SUNY Fredonia was home to the annual Dunkirk-Fredonia Unified Basketball Game. In front of a raucous crowd, the two teams battled it out for four quarters.

Devils win two at The Wig

The Fredonia State baseball team extended its win streak to four games with 10-4 and 5-4 wins over visiting Hilbert College on Monday. Christian Pagano connected for a two-run homerun in Game 1, his third in as many games. Alex Gannon added a two-run blast of his own in the opener.

Day 2 results at Cortland

The 4x100 relay team took third place, and turned in a AARTFC qualifying time on the second day of the Cortland Classic on Saturday. Jacob Winn -- a member of the relay team -- also turned in a third place in the finals of the 100m dash.
