Campus events during Earth Week call attention to environmental sustainability

SUNY Fredonia’s Biology Club, along with FACE and the Sustainability Committee, plans a series of events for the fifth Earth Week to raise the awareness of sustainability in local environments.

Earth Week 2012 will last a week, from Saturday, April 14 thru Sunday, April 22.

With a focus on local species sustainability, the Biology Club invites Fredonia campus to join the invasive non-native species pull at the William Prindle Alexander Preserve in Zoar Valley on Saturday, April 21. Transportation will be provided at 10 a.m. in Jewett Hall parking lot. Weather appropriate outfits are recommended.

Students are also encouraged to attend other activities:

  • Saturday, April 14: Clean-up the Quads
  • Sunday, April 15: Trash Crawl; Group Bike Ride; Beach Clean-up; Re-Shake the Habit
  • Monday, April 16: “Take-Back-the-Tap” Water Tasting; Seed Starting Workshop
  • Tuesday, April 17: Trayless Tuesday; Dumpster Dive; “Green Your Morning Routine”; Re-Shake the Habit
  • Wednesday, April 18: Flash Mob; Re-Shake the Habit; “Bag it” Screening
  • Thursday, April 19: Guest speaker Dr. Bernard Weiss, a professor of Environmental Medicine and Pediatrics with the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, and a panel discussion on the theme, “Strategic Science: Risk to the Man, Reward to Society”
  • Friday, April 20: Eco Fashion Show
  • Saturday, April 21: Nature Walk; Electronics Recycling
  • Sunday, April 22: “Make Your Mark” Native Tree Planting
