The third annual Fredonia Soccer Cancer Awareness Weekend is Sept. 8 and Sept. 9 at University Stadium.

That is also the weekend of the annual Blue Devil Classic during which both Fredonia teams and six other collegiate teams will compete.

Admission fees will be collected both days and will be added to the proceeds to benefit Team Roswell, the fundraising arm of the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo.

The Fredonia Soccer event has raised $6,539 in its first two years, with Lake Shore Savings & Loan contributing $3,000 of the total -- a donation of $1,500 each year. Additional funds were raised through a silent auction, 50-50 tickets, and the gate receipts.

As they did the past two years, the Fredonia men's team will wear light blue jerseys and the women's team teal jerseys for their Saturday games -- the colors representative of the fight against prostate cancer and ovarian cancer, respectively.

Also competing in the 2017 Classic will be men's teams from Alfred State, SUNY Buffalo State, and Houghton; and women's teams from D'Youville, Oswego, and Penn State Behrend.

The list of raffle prizes for the third annual Fredonia Soccer Cancer Awareness event includes a place to sit, something to watch, and teams to root for. A recliner chair donated by Pucci's Carpet One Furniture & Bedding, a 40-inch high-definition television donated by Wal-Mart, tickets to a Cleveland Indians' game donated by a friend of the women's soccer program, and Buffalo Bills autographed memorabilia donated by the team make up the big-ticket prize list. Raffle ticket prices are one for $5 and five for $20 and will be sold pre-sale by calling 716-673-3669 or by contacting equipment manager Mike Kozlowski, women's soccer Chris Case or men's soccer coach P.J. Gondek. Tickets will also be sold at the event. The drawing will take place Sept. 9 at approximately 3:30 p.m. and winners will be responsible for picking up their prizes.

Admission fees from the two days will be added to the proceeds from the raffles to benefit the Team Roswell and Roswell Park Alliance Foundation.
