Carlson claims SUNYAC 1-meter title

Fredonia's Arron Carlson (LeRoy) captured the 2017 State University of New York Athletic Conference men's 1-meter diving title on Day 1 of the conference of the swimming and diving championships at the Burt Flickinger Aquatic Center in Buffalo.

The six-time SUNYAC Diver of the Week continued his success into the championships where he totaled 549.30 points to win the crown. Geneseo's Samuel Randall finished second and Cortland's Lee Wade was third.

Fredonia senior Jake Storms (Fredonia) finished seventh with 445.30 points and freshman Christian Krasnek (Springville) was 10th with 439.45.

All three Fredonia men had scores which qualify them for NCAA zone diving competition. In addition, they earned 39 points for their team, five points behind Geneseo.

The 4 x 100 relay team of Cameron Sample, Jordan Lockett, Jacob Winn, and Nick Marsowicz set a new Fredonia State outdoor record, finishing the race in 42.19 seconds. It was a regional-qualifying time, and .17 seconds behind the first-place Cortland team.

Pellechia earns fourth SUNYAC Title

For the fourth time in four tries, pole vaulter Cara Pellechia can call herself a SUNYAC Champion. Pellechia cleared 3.50m to take the outdoor title at the SUNYAC Meet on Friday.

Riding the steady right arm of senior Emily Chelius, the Fredonia State softball team claimed a 6-2 win in Game 1 of its doubleheader at Buffalo State and qualified for the SUNYAC Tournament.
