December grad Christopher Dean is Student of the Month

Accounting major and senior Christopher Dean accepts his award as October Student of the Month from Ben Hartung, his boss on campus, and Steven Bernstein, resident director of Chautauqua Hall. 

 

The Student of the Month program was implemented in 2003 to recognize students who are well-rounded, excel in their academics and contribute positively to the campus and community.

Christopher Dean, of Ripley, N.Y., has been named Student of the Month for October by Residence Life. Christopher was nominated for this award by Benjamin Hartung, ResNet Systems Administrator, because of his exemplary performance.

Christopher, a ResNet Student Manager “helps enable the smooth operations of the ResNet Office,” Hartung shared. Christopher has been a Student Manager for ResNet since 2008 where he troubleshoots and repairs computer hardware and software. He also has assisted in maintenance of a network spanning over 3,500 computers. Christopher also oversees a staff of six student technicians.

Christopher is a senior Public Accounting major preparing to take his CPA exam, due to graduate in December of 2011. He is President of the Accounting Society, Accounting Assistant at the Rockefeller Arts Center and is an Accounting and Finance Intern at the SUNY Fredonia Technology Incubator.

Christopher is also a Volunteer Income Tax Assistant (VITA) as an IRS Certified Volunteer Preparer.

Christopher continues to work diligently at his academics to maintain his 3.77 GPA. Upon completion of his degree, Christopher intends on taking his CPA and possibly pursue a career at a CPA firm. He also states that “the opportunities at the Technology Incubator are very exciting as a career starter.”

When asked about his favorite things about Fredonia, Christopher wrote “the friendly atmosphere and a small student body.” Christopher also wrote that he feels “the accounting department at SUNY Fredonia is top notch.”
