Eden woman and Fredonia alumna honored at National Philanthropy Day

A graduate of the Fredonia Normal School Class of 1939, Mrs. Willson was nominated by SUNY Fredonia for the honor. She was described as "an exemplary alumna, donor and friend of the university."
The National Philanthropy Day Luncheon is held annually by the Association of Fundraising Professionals WNY Chapter. Attending the luncheon from SUNY Fredonia were President Dennis L. Hefner, Vice President for University Advancement David Tiffany, Fredonia College Foundation board member Jean Malinoski, Associate Vice President for University Development Betty Gossett, and Director of Alumni Affairs Patty Feraldi.
A kindergarten teacher for 42 years, Mrs. Willson has supported SUNY Fredonia by creating an endowment in her sister Lucille’s memory, and, along with her late husband, Ross, establishing a sizeable bequest to create a scholarship to assist students who show great commitment to teaching.
Mrs. Willson also supports the Joslin Diabetes Center where she established the James D. Burdick Memorial Research Fund in memory of her son, seeking a cure for diabetes.
The Fredonia College Foundation is delighted to recognize Phyllis Ellis Willson as a cherished member of the SUNY Fredonia family.
