Environmental chemistry course offering films this semester

This semester Dr. Sherri “Sam” Mason is hosting an environmental/sustainability film series in conjunction with her environmental chemistry course. Films will be shown at 10 p.m. in Jewett 101 on selected Wednesdays. All films will be free and open to the general public.
Films already shown are "The 1%," directed by Jamie Johnston; "Food, Inc.," directed by Robert Kenner; and "Gasland," directed by Josh Fox.
- Feb. 15: “Dirt,” directed by Bill Benson and Gene Rosow. Our natural resources such as dirt are becoming more and more limited as we continue to drill and destroy what’s left of our resources’ quota. The film explores the many advantages of dirt.
- Feb. 22: “Forks over Knives,” directed by Lee Fulkerson. This film gives a look into animal-based and processed food and how by eliminating these types of items from our diet, we decrease our chances of any developing any type of degenerative disease.
- Feb 29: “The End of the Line,” directed by Rupert Murray. This film examines the effects of overfishing on the world’s aquatic population.
- Mar. 7: “Flow (For Love Of Water),” directed by Irena Salina. The focus of this film is how our resource of water is beginning to slowly diminish.
- Mar. 21: “Addicted to Plastic,” directed by Ian Connacher. This film examines plastic pollution and probable solutions to this global issue.
- Mar. 28: “Tapped." This film is about the bottled water industry.
- April 11: "Carbon Nation."
- Apr. 18: “Bag It,” directed by Suzan Beraza. This film tells the story of Jeb Berrier and his elimination of plastics completely. He then goes out to explore this global issue of plastic consumption and how it affects us.
