The Ethos New Music Society of SUNY Fredonia will present "Hearing Voices" on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 8 p.m., in the Juliet J. Rosch Recital Hall.

The concert of art songs begins the group’s 30th season of active support of new music in Western New York and will feature student singers and pianists premiering compositions by student composers. Works by Ryan Brewer of Dansville, Scott Byrne of Northport, Sara Culhane and Joel Hunt of Rochester, Scott Farkas of Stony Point, Alex Northrup of Webster, Seth Rush of Commack, and Chris Sobolewski of Marcellus, will be featured. The concert is free and the public is invited to attend.

Other events of the 2007-2008 season include the "Solos & Duets" concert; an appearance by the world-renowned string quartet "Ethel," the annual NewSound Festival featuring composers Morton Subotnick, Missy Mazzoli and William Neil; an ever-popular "Fantasia" concert, and a new "Past, Present & Future" concert where the group looks back on alumni works as well as introduces the winners of Ethos’ first annual young composers competition. For more information, interested persons should see the group’s new website for dates.

Ethos is a student-administrated organization at SUNY Fredonia responsible for the presentation of four concerts each season, symposia featuring visiting composers, and field trips to hear new music in surrounding cities. Ethos is committed to the promotion of 20th and 21st century music at SUNY Fredonia, including standard repertoire and compositions by student and faculty composers. Supported by the Student Association, Ethos has, since its founding in 1977, actively encouraged the production of new music including the presentation of visiting composers and performers of national and international reputation. In 2006, Ethos' contributions were recognized for their excellence in the creative arts.
