Five given honors for Administrative Excellence

FREDONIA, N.Y. — January 16, 2009 — Winners of the Outstanding Administrative Service Awards were recently recognized at a luncheon in their honor. Tracy Bennett, Vice President for Administration, cited five recipients for their outstanding, exemplary performance as noted by students, faculty and staff in five areas: custodial services, professional trades, secretarial/clerical, Faculty Student Association non-management, and professional staff from the university or the Faculty Student Association.

“These awards,” explained Mr. Bennett, “recognize employees in the administrative division who show an exemplary service attitude, creativity and resourcefulness in improving services, a willingness to work as part of a team, and a positive attitude in dealing with students, faculty and other staff.”

This year’s winners are:

Markus Kessler, recipient of the Professional Service Award. Markus has been employed at SUNY Fredonia since July 1999. He began as the Assistant Director of Facilities Planning and was promoted to his current position of Director of Facilities Planning in 2001. He resides in Hamburg. 

Joel Polito, recipient of the Professional Trades Award, of the Facilities Management Department.
Joel has been employed since April 1975 at SUNY Fredonia in the Heating Plant as a Plant Utilities Engineer. He resides in Fredonia. 

Darlene Miller, recipient of the Custodial Services Award, of the Building Services and Grounds Department. Darlene has been employed at SUNY Fredonia since November 2004 and works as a cleaner. She resides in Fredonia. 

Denise Aschmann, recipient of the Secretarial/Clerical Award. Denise has been employed at SUNY Fredonia in the Student Accounts office since November 1997 as a Calculations Clerk II. She resides in Westfield. 

Marcia Mackowiak, recipient of the Faculty Student Association Award. Marcia has worked at SUNY Fredonia in the Bookstore since January 1982 and has held the positions of Assistant Service Clerk, Assistant Textbook Clerk, and Service Clerk. She resides in Dunkirk.

The Outstanding Administrative Service Awards have been presented annually since 2003 to acknowledge the significant contributions administrative support staff make to the students, faculty and staff at SUNY Fredonia.
