Fredfest seeking volunteers

Spectrum needs at least 75 to 100 students to help assist with the event as security volunteers security.

Those interested can sign-up for shifts in the Spectrum office, located in the Williams Center Temporary Office Complex.

Last night, at a special unveiling party held at the Dods MPR, Fredonia Radio System’s WCVF-FM (88.9), and WDVL-FM (89.5) announced that hip-hop artist Lupe Fiasco will headline this year’s concert.

Fred Fest will be held on Saturday, April 28, in Steele Hall Field House. As a long-standing tradition, two local bands will open the event. One band will be selected after on-campus voting conducted by Spectrum, and the other through the Battle of the Band competition held by Sound Services. To enter, please contact Sound Services for entry rules and submission paperwork.

Students on the student-run Spectrum Entertainment Board worked throughout this academic year to poll student’s wishes based on favorite genres and bands through Campus Life’s web portal, FSU4U.

Fiasco's "The Show Goes On," the biggest hit from his most recent album, "Lasers," peaked at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2011 before reaching double platinum status by the Recording Industry Association of America.

He debuted into mainstream hip-hop in 2006 with his first CD titled, “Food & Liquor.” The CD would go on to reach No. 8 on the Billboard 200, spawn subsequent singles, “I Gotcha” and “Daydreamin’,” featuring Jill Scott, and end the year with multiple Grammy nominations.

In 2007, Fiasco debuted “The Cool,” which featured top-ten hit “Superstar” featuring Matthew Santos sold over 500,000 copies. Last year, Fiasco released “LASERS,” an acronym for “Love Always Shines Everytime: Remember to Smile,” one of the anticipated releases in hip-hop in recent years.
