The improvisational play, "Negative Space," presented by student theatre groups
SUNY Fredonia’s Collaborative Productions and The Performing Arts Company will present "Negative Space," a full-length drama, on Saturday, March 2 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 3 at 1 p.m., in 209 McEwen Hall. The event is free and open to students, faculty/staff, and the general public and community.
"Negative Space" incorporates real people and how they are indirectly affected by the same tragedy. The play was written collectively by the student members of PAC and Collaborative Productions. They created the full length drama through structured improvisation. Each scene has specific check points that the actors must cover to further enhance the plot; however the majority of the show is set up through structured improvisation of details and nuances of the scene.
The story takes place on Black Friday, in a small town of Freedmont, after a mass shooting occurred at the Freedmont Mall. Six main characters are focused on throughout the production, including a teacher, an artist, a brother and others. The drama exposes how their lives have changed after the event.
