James Davis, professor of musicology and musicology, will give a presentation at Canisius College entitled “Military Bands and the Intersection of Communities during the American Civil War” on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 2:30 p.m. in the Regis Room of the Richard E. Winter ’42 Student Center.

Davis’ primary research focus is the music and musicians of the American Civil War. He will discuss how the military brass band, situated at the center of American musical culture during the war, bridged communities in such a way as to unite the past and present, soldiers and civilians, and even the North and South.
