Rosch Recital Hall. The event is free and the public is invited to attend.

Dr. McVicker, a faculty member in the Department of English for two decades, earned her Ph.D. in Comparative Literature and M.A. in Philosophy from SUNY Binghamton, and B.A. in English from Purdue University. She has directed Fredonia’s Women’s Studies program, coordinated the Interdisciplinary Studies Journalism program, and chaired the Department of English.

Her published work crosses several disciplines, though most of it has revolved around the work of Virginia Woolf. Dr. McVicker has also written on the politics of the university, media studies and journalism, and women’s studies and literature.

Professor McVicker has served as adviser for “The Leader” student newspaper of SUNY Fredonia and the Women’s Student Union, and for many years as a representative to the University Senate and a judge for the Rosa Parks Scholarship Competition.

Established in 1986, the President’s Award for Excellence is presented each year to a teacher-scholar to recognize innovative and highly effective teaching, and each year that individual presents a lecture to the campus community. SUNY Fredonia President Dennis Hefner will introduce Dr. McVicker.

In addition to Dr. McVicker, 2008 President’s Award for Excellence recipients included Dr. Sally Turner of the Counseling Center and Timothy McGraw of the Facilities Management/Structural Maintenance area. The three were honored during the spring at a lunch at the Williams Center during which service awards were also presented to faculty and staff. A reception will follow Dr. McVicker’s lecture in the Rosch Recital Hall lobby.
