Lake Shore Savings has again made a $10,000 commitment to support the arts and entertainment programming at the Michael C. Rockefeller Arts Center at the State University of New York at Fredonia.

A long-time supporter of Rockefeller Arts Center and SUNY Fredonia, Lake Shore Savings significantly increased its commitment to the arts last year by becoming the first-ever season-wide sponsor for the arts center.

The Dunkirk-based financial institution is returning in that role again this season.

Rockefeller Arts Center Director Jefferson Westwood said the support of Lake Shore is making a tremendous impact.

“Lake Shore Savings’ season-wide sponsorship has made a big difference to our programming and our entire operation,” Westwood said. “ With so many of our costs on the rise for things like artists’ fees, paper, postage and printing, their support has meant that we can continue offering quality programming without raising ticket prices.”

The 2008-2009 performing arts season at Rockefeller Arts Center began earlier this month and runs through May. Lake Shore Savings will underwrite the entire season, which includes events in the DFT Communications Pops Series, the Kaleidoscope Series Family Series sponsored by Howard Hanna Holt Real Estate, the World Travel Series sponsored by Fredonia Place and the Walter Gloor Mainstage Series.

Lake Shore Savings has deep roots in the community, having been chartered in 1891 in Dunkirk. Over the last century-plus, the financial institution has experienced tremendous growth. Since opening its first branch office in Fredonia in 1987, Lake Shore Savings has added branches in Westfield, Jamestown, Orchard Park, Hamburg and East Amherst. At the same time, Lake Shore Savings has seen its assets grow to in excess of $300 million.

Lake Shore Savings’ support of SUNY Fredonia goes well beyond the sponsorship of events at Rockefeller Arts Center. In 2001, Lake Shore Savings presented a gift of $100,000 to the Fredonia College Foundation to purchase the 40-foot clock tower and carillon that stands inside Symphony Circle at the Ring Road intersection on campus. Lake Shore Savings has also been a strong supporter of SUNY Fredonia through gifts to the Fredonia College Foundation and has established a scholarship for children of employees who are enrolled at SUNY Fredonia.

Through its Community Reinvestment Fund, Lake Shore Savings supports many additional worthy activities in the local area. The Community Reinvestment Fund makes money available to area clubs, sports organizations, civic groups, schools, charitable organizations and others for programs and activities.
