Motivational speaker Jeff Tobe will be giving two workshops to specialized staff at SUNY Fredonia Friday, Aug. 15, as a creative-thinking exercise to launch the 2008-09 academic year, which starts Monday, Aug. 25.

Tobe is one of the most sought-after speakers and consultants in corporate America, a title he has earned through his trademark presentations, "Coloring Outside the Lines.” The workshops are sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Administration.

All custodial and trades staff are invited to the morning session, “Listening Between the Lines,” a workshop on creative teambuilding, starting at 10:30 in McEwen Hall Room 202.

The 2 p.m. session, in the same location, is for professionals, secretarial and clerical employees, as well as community members. Entitled, “Coloring Outside the Lines,” its focus will be on innovation and creative problem-solving.

Refreshments will be served prior to each session.

Santa and Elf Holly on television for the 23rd year

For the 23rd year, community volunteers, Information Technology Services at SUNY Fredonia, and DFT Communications have donated their time and expertise to bring Santa and Elf Holly to the homes of local viewers on Wednesday, Dec. 18, and Thursday, Dec. 19. Santa and Elf Holly are assisted in their North Pole television studio by a crew of TV and phone elves to provide this special holiday program for children.

Biology majors honored as October 'Students of the Month'

Maria Green and Nicholas Dragonette, both senior Biology majors, were named Students of the Month for October by the Office of Residence Life. “Both are bright, pleasant and motivated students,” said Dr. Ted Lee of the Department of Biology, who nominated them for the award. As co-founders of the Health Professions Club, Green, of Loudonville, and Dragonette, of Orchard Park, have a key role in the club that provides advice to upperclassmen and serves as a forum for all pre-health students at SUNY Fredonia to discuss issues.
