Scholar Athlete Award-winner Enjoli Burse is a Music Business major.

Enjoli Burse of Cheektowaga received the Scholar Athlete Award from State University of New York Chancellor John R. Ryan at a ceremony at Westchester Community College in Valhalla, NY, earlier this month.

Ms. Burse is a junior majoring in music business at SUNY Fredonia, and a member of the college’s cheerleading team, which finished third among Division III colleges at the United Spirit Association nationals in Las Vegas.

The Chancellor’s Scholar Athlete Award recognizes a combination of academic excellence and outstanding athletic achievement at the Division I, Division III and NJCAA levels. Across these levels, 70 student athletes, in 19 different sports, from 28 SUNY schools were selected. “The Scholar Athlete Award is one of the most selective and prestigious awards bestowed by SUNY, because it speaks to the hard work and dedication our student athletes put forth in classrooms and on the fields, courts and courses where they compete throughout the year,” said Chancellor Ryan. “Their success also speaks volumes about the quality of programs and curriculum of SUNY’s campuses, coaches, faculty, and students. I commend the recipients as well as their coaches for this extraordinary achievement.”

Athletic Directors at the campuses nominate students for the Scholar Athlete Award based on their academic excellence (they must maintain a Grade Point Average of 3.64 or higher out of 4.0) and their athletic skills and teamwork.
