Nancy Hagedorn awarded NEH fellowship

Nancy Hagedorn

The National Endowment of the Humanities has awarded History Professor Nancy Hagedorn a one-semester independent research fellowship to work at the Library Company of Philadelphia, an independent research library specializing in American history and culture from the 17th through the 19th centuries. 

Dr. Hagedorn, who specializes in U.S. history, especially early American history, is writing a book about interpreters as cultural mediators between the British and the Iroquois from 1664 to 1775. She plans to work at the library during the Fall 2011 semester. 

In general, her research and publications focus on cultural interaction in the Atlantic World, with an emphasis on British-Iroquois relations in the colonial Northeast. She studies the broader subject of multicultural communities throughout the Atlantic World and the ways in which cultural interaction was mediated during encounters.
