New Dean Arts/Humanities selected

Dr. John Kijinski, dean of the College of Arts & Sciences at Idaho State University, Pocatello, has been selected after a national search as dean of the College of Arts & Humanities at SUNY Fredonia. Assuming his post on August 1, he will oversee the degree programs, faculty, and facilities in visual arts, new media, communication, English, modern languages, health and wellness, history, music, philosophy, theatre and dance.

Originally from Ohio, Dr. Kijinski earned his doctorate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a doctorate of arts from ISU, a master’s in English from the University of Chicago and bachelor’s, also in English, from The Ohio State University. As dean of the largest of ISU’s seven schools, Dr. Kijinski worked with chairs of 18 academic departments that have 200 faculty members and serve 5,000 students. The fine and performing arts, humanities and social and natural sciences comprise the College of Arts and Sciences, which is home to three major research centers and a new performing arts center. Dr. Kijinski also served ISU as an associate dean, chair of the Department of English and Philosophy, and faculty member.

Dr. Kijinski has a background in English literature, with research interests that center on Victorian literature.

Two separate wellness workshops – one for faculty about how to manage burnout and another for students about staying joyful while studying or teaching what they love – will be presented at SUNY Fredonia by Dr. Merideth Hite Estevez on Friday, Oct. 27.
