New workshops geared to student success planned throughout semester

A wide range of opportunities to acquire a fresh set of new skills, while connecting with key Fredonia faculty and staff, will offered during inaugural Student Success Workshops. Weekly sessions, developed by the Office of Campus Life, will tackle a broad range of enticing topics throughout the spring semester.

“These hands-on workshops will add opportunities to interact with peers, learn valuable life/career skills and are perfect for resume building,” explained Mark Suida, director of Campus Life and coordinator of the Leaderships Studies minor.

"Students who attend these workshops can expect to learn skills and knowledge that can be applied during their college career and beyond. Students will also have the opportunity to learn from professional staff and faculty who may be outside of their inner circle or major,” Mr. Suida said.

“Our office realizes the importance of students having opportunities to connect with faculty and staff in new and different ways that promote retention, relationship building, holistic student development and networking,” Suida added. “I'd like to thank the presenters who are creating engaging and worthwhile workshops that will allow students to apply this knowledge in a new setting!"

Each week will feature a different workshop, with diverse topics such as effective event planning, choosing a major, career development and Yoga offered. With the exception of the first and last weeks of the semester and spring break, a workshop will be held on Tuesday or Wednesday of each week. They are free to students and there is no preregistration.

Students who attend three or more workshops will receive a certificate and recognition at the Leadership Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, May 2, in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room.

Career Development: Myers Briggs Type Indicator Personality Assessment – Tuesday, Jan. 30, 6 p.m., presented by Christopher LaGrow, associate director of Career Development, Williams Center Room G103-C.

Effective Event Planning and Campus Life Forms – Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2 p.m. (Student Development Day), presented by Rachel Martin, assistant director of Residence Life, Williams Center Room G103-C.

Volunteer and Community Service Opportunities – Tuesday, Feb. 13, 5 p.m., presented by Joyce Harvard Smith, coordinator of Volunteer and Community Services, Williams Center Room G103-C.

Advising and Choosing a Major – Wednesday, Feb. 21, 5 p.m., presented by Amy LeClair, director of Academic Advising, Williams Center Room G103-C.

Yoga (Focus on Mind, Body and Spirit) – Tuesday, Feb. 27, 5 p.m., presented by Susan Hach Murphy, coordinator of Employee Assistance Program, Dods Hall dance studio.
