Olga Bogatyrenko will examine U.S. at colloquium

Christine Davis Mantai

Olga Bogatyrenko, Assistant Professor in Political Science will be the featured speaker at the Social Science Colloquium on Friday, March 14, at 3 p.m. in Room E359 Thompson Hall.  The title of her talk is “Amazing Transformations: When do Great Powers Successfully Transform Their Power”? This presentation will focus on evaluating America’s current international standing in light of its performance along several economic, political and military dimensions.

Her talk will examine whether America is in decline, and if so, to what extent and how fast. She will consider ways that America can manage its international power position to preserve its status as a powerful international player with consequential presence in international affairs and to avert negative consequences of (current or future) decline.

Answers to these questions will be modeled in theoretical terms on the basis of managerial and organization literature that focuses on (a) how mature companies survive and strategize about their long term future and (b) product life cycle theory and findings.
