School of Music launches concert series for prospective students
Fredonia Constellation Concerts: Aligning Fredonia’s Brightest Stars, a new performance initiative to be offered by the School of Music to prospective students and their families, will debut on Friday, Jan. 27 at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall.
A broad range of faculty and student performers will be featured in the concert series that continues on Feb. 3, 17 and 24 – each one coinciding with the night before an audition day of the season.
Performers in the inaugural concert and the selections each has chosen include: Fr. Sean Duggan, Bach for solo piano; bassoonist Jamie Sampson, an original composition; Dr. Kay Stonefelt, Nathaniel Boyer, Steven Lowe and Tom Kohnen, four movements from “Postludes for Bowed Vibraphone,” by Elliot Cole; David Rose (viola), J. S. Bach's Sonata in G minor, BWV 1029, with Fr. Duggan; Dr. Roderick Macdonald (trumpet), silent movie music from Charlie Chaplin's “The Circus,” with James Welch (piano), and the Fredonia Saxophone Ensemble performing Holst's “Jupiter” from “The Planets.”
"Each concert offers a unique perspective of the School of Music," commented Natasha Farny, cello professor and co-coordinator of the series. "Prospective students and their parents will hear School of Music faculty and students perform, and meet them afterwards to have any questions answered. It's another way for students to get a realistic idea of what it would be like to study music at Fredonia."
Dr. Farny coordinated the series with saxophone professor Dr. Wildy Zumwalt.
All concerts are free and open to the public and are less than an hour in length.
