Special events taking place this week for Music Therapy Awareness

Music Therapy Awareness Week – March 1st – 5th

Monday, March 1

" An Introduction to Guided Imagery and Music"
3pm, Mason 2140, Free
Dr. Joni Milgram-Luterman, MT-BC, LCAT, will describe the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music, an advanced music therapy model that uses prescribed music to stimulate altered states of consciousness for the purposes of personal growth.


Tuesday, March 2

"Hello My Friend: A Client's Perspective"
3:30pm, Thompson W101, Free
Kim Mancino, MT-BC, LCAT, will give a presentation featuring one of her clients and her view on music therapy. Mancino is the music therapist at Lutheran Social Services in Jamestown, N.Y., as well as an adjunct music therapy faculty member.

“Introduction to Alexander Technique”
6:00pm, Mason 2140, Free
This workshop with Amrom Chodos will cover the basics of the Alexander Technique of relaxation and how to apply it to music performances and daily life. Chodos is an adjunct clarinet faculty member.



Wednesday, March 3

"Music Therapy Internship and New Professional Experience"
2:00pm, Fenton 105, Free
SUNY Fredonia graduate, Jamie Rowitsch, MT-BC, recently completed her clinical internship and will be talking about what it was like during the internship process and now as she is looking for jobs.

“Social Skills, Understanding Domain and Sub-domain Areas, and Building Songs and Experiences for Groups.”
7:00pm – 9pm, Mason 2019, Free
Wade Richards, LCAT, NMT, MT-BC, will, the director of music therapy services at the Hochstein School of Music and Dance, and SUNY Fredonia alumnus, will draw on his experience as a music therapist to teach us about group music therapy issues. (Reception to follow)


Thursday, March 4

“Drum Circle”
11am, Willams Center in the Spot, Free
Everyone welcome to participate - with or without your own drum!


"An Evaluation of Validation and Music Therapy in the Care of Individuals with Dementia and Those Who Care for Them."
6:00pm, McEwen 209, Free
Cáitlín O'Reilly is a recent graduate from the music therapy program at SUNY Fredonia and recently completed her internship.


Friday, March 5

“Music Therapy Recital”
8pm, Diers Recital Hall, Free
A fun and informational recital as an opportunity to learn about music therapy. This event concludes the week-long music therapy awareness week and includes musical and clinical examples presented by music therapy students.
