Santa and Elf Holly will take calls from kids.
For the 18th year, Academic Information Technology at SUNY Fredonia, community volunteers and DFT Communications are donating their time and expertise to bring Santa Claus and Elf Holly into the homes of local television viewers.

The live television call-in show “Talk to Santa” will be presented on Dec. 16, 17 and 18, beginning at 6:30 p.m. each evening, on Time Warner Ch. 5 in Brocton, Cassadaga, Fredonia and Stockton, and Ch. 19 in Dunkirk, Silver Creek, Forestville and Hanover.

For the three nights, children and their families can tune in watch Santa and his assistant, Elf Holly, as they take live phone calls from viewers who want to let Santa know what they would like to receive for Christmas. The phone number to call into the show is 679-XMAS.

DFT Communications has donated its time and expertise to bring the two to the homes of local viewers by providing a special Santa Claus line that in the past has received more than 300 calls during the three evenings. “Talk to Santa” Coordinator and AIT Director Colin Plaister noted that children throughout the northern part of the county will be able to tell Santa about their special wishes for Christmas, which are not always about toys, but sometimes to bring a soldier home safely or a wish that someone recovers from an illness.

The program originates from Thompson Hall on campus. Mr. Plaister is joined in the effort by Tom Sullivan, Marcia Merrins, Bob Scott, Doug Johnson, Dr. John Malcolm, Brad Markham, Lisa Eikenburg, Elizabeth Curtin-O’Brien, Charlotte Morse, Christa Hayes, Paul Arntz, Chip Riewaldt, Denise Maze, John McCune, Charley Mancuso, Debbie Ormsby, Laura Sarek and Steven O’Brien.

Local schools cooperate by encouraging first and second grade children to write letters that may be read during the shows as time permits.
