Women in chemistry subject of Fall Gathering

Cheryl Campo
, new faculty member and polymer researcher in the chemistry department, is the featured speaker for the Fall Gathering of the Women’s Studies Program on Wednesday, Sept. 27 from 5 to 7 p.m. in Café G of the Williams Center. Dr. Campo will present, “Wine, Women and Song…Mixtures, Men and Science,” as her topic.

As a woman with training in engineering and chemistry, Dr. Campo has faced classrooms filled with more men than women. Her graduate experiences in male-dominated fields have shaped her teaching and research interests. “The Fall Gathering is an annual event for women and men from across campus to come together, share ideas and mingle,” said Melissa DiMartino (graduate assistant, English) Refreshments will be served.

Dr. Campo’s Ph.D. is from Case Western University. She graduated from Rutgers with a chemistry degree and then went on to teach in high school. This semester she is teaching a graduate course in Science Education and two chemistry labs.
