The Office of Field Experiences at Fredonia oversees school-based clinical experiences that education majors complete as part of their teacher preparation program requirements. OFE supports students before and during student teaching by providing information and guidance. All pre-student teaching early field experiences and student teaching assignments are facilitated by OFE staff, in consultation with building principals, and are monitored by faculty and staff who hold teacher certification.
Prior to student teaching, education majors participate in freshmen, sophomore and junior courses linked to a field experience in regional schools. This Theory to Practice model is the heart of Fredonia’s Responsive Educator Program. Opportunities to observe, interact and teach throughout the program provides authentic settings in which to develop the necessary knowledge, skills and dispositions to be a teacher. Our p-12 partner schools and teachers provide supportive settings for mentoring future teachers. We look forward to working with you!

P-12 School Partnerships:
SUNY Fredonia has strong partnerships with p-12 schools throughout New York State and beyond.
One of our longest partnerships has been in place for more than 50 years with the Hamburg Central School District in Hamburg, NY. Unlike the traditional semester-long student teaching experience, the Helen L. Johnson Fredonia-Hamburg Internship Program offers our undergraduate candidates with a year-long student teaching experience.
