Campus plans one-week shutdown between holidays; some offices remain open

To conserve utility costs, the College will again curtail services and operations for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. Employees will be asked to take voluntary leave, but will be assigned work if they choose not to participate. With the exception of a few offices, college buildings will be closed (including the Campus and Community Children's Center), and heat reduced, beginning close of business Friday, Dec. 23, and continuing through Monday, Jan. 2.  Regular hours resume on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

Exceptions to Shutdown:

Residence halls will close at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17, and will reopen Saturday, Jan. 21, for the Spring Semester. 

Admissions Office will not participate in the shutdown, and will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

University Police will be open 24 hours a day, every day. Call 716-673-3333 during an emergency.

The Fredonia College Foundation (272 Central Ave., Foundation House) will be open during the shutdown except on Monday, Dec. 26 and Monday, Jan. 2.  The Foundation will be processing gifts during the last week in December. Dods and Steele Halls will have limited activities:

  • From Dec. 23 through Jan. 2 the Fitness Center, Racquetball Courts, and Pool will be closed to general users.
  • Ice Rink: There will be public skating sessions Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 26, 27 and Monday, Jan. 2 from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Pool:  closes after the noon hour swim on Friday, Dec. 16, and opens for regular hours on Tuesday, Jan. 2.

Central Stores:

Central Stores will be open Dec. 27, 28, 29, and 30 from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. However, packages will be delivered to departments on a requested basis only. Closed Dec. 26 and Jan. 2.

The SUNY Fredonia Federal Credit Union's hours are as follows:

  • Open: December 27 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • December 28 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • December 29 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • December 30 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Closed: December 26 and January 2.
  • The Credit Union will be open on Tuesday, January 3 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Regular hours resume on Wednesday, January 4.

Employee Assistance Program

  • Although the office is closed, the EAP Coordinator will check messages left at 716-673-3586 and make appointments if necessary during the holiday break.

Facilities Services:

  • Facilities Services will have minimal maintenance and custodial staff during this period.
  • There will be limited snow plowing of parking lots and walkways and limited snow shoveling at building entrances.
  • Non-essential parking lots will not be plowed during the evenings and nights. In emergencies, please contact University Police (ext. 3333).
  • Request for maintenance:  The online work requests will be monitored daily.  Submit online work requests at: https://www.fredonia.edu/about/offices/facilities/workrequest

Facilities Services Office hours will be:

  • December 19 – 22 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • December 23 – 26 Closed
  • December 27 – 30 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • December 31 – January 2 Closed

Heating Services: 

  • Will have standard 24/7 coverage, but be closed on December 25 and January 1.


The University Bookstore and Convenience Store hours will be:

  • December 19 – 23 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • December 26 – 30 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • January 2 – 6 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Starbucks Coffee hours will be:

  • December 19 – 23 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • December 24 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • December 25 Closed
  • December 26 – 30 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • December 31 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • January 1 Closed
  • January 2 - 20, Monday – Friday: 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. & Saturday and Sunday: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Cash, check, major credit cards, SUNY Fredonia Debit Accounts and FREDFunds accepted during this period at Starbucks, University Bookstore and C-Store. Fall 2011 and Spring 2012 meal plans are not active during this period; however, a J-75 Meal Plan will be available for students enrolled in J-Term. A J-75 plan functions for the J-Term session only.

Food Services:

  • Food Service operations will be closed during the Holiday Break.
  • The FSA Office will close at 5 p.m. on Friday, December 16, 2011 and will reopen on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 8:30 a.m.

Garage:

  • Will be open December 27 – 30, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Closed December 26 and January 2.

Mailroom:

  • The mailroom will be open December 27 and 29, 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Departments may elect to pick up their department mail from the mailroom during these hours. There will be no general campus delivery or pick up of mail during the holiday shutdown. Closed December 26, 28, 30, and January 2.
