Lots to see and do at Welcome Week activities

Students have fun with yard games during Welcome Week

There were plenty of smiles to go around at yard games during last year’s Welcome Week.

It’s Welcome Week, so that means movies, an ice cream social, karaoke and a few new attractions for students during the first full week of the fall semester.

“Welcome Week events are a great way to meet new people and have fun! They are open and free to all students, sponsored by Student Association,” said Rachel Martin, assistant director of Campus Life.

The week begins with a matinee event, Rock Paint and Sip, in the Williams Center patio on Saturday, Aug. 20, from 1 to 3 p.m. Campus Life is hosting and supplies and frozen mocktails will be furnished.

“The Princess Bride,” which some critics described as a deft, intelligent mix of swashbuckling, romance and comedy that takes an age-old damsel-in-distress story and makes it fresh, will be screened in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room on Sunday, Aug. 21, from 7 to 9 p.m. Rob Reiner directed the film released in 1987. Popcorn will be provided. The movie showing is hosted by Hillel.

Students are invited to an open house at the new location of the Student Association, Room S226 in the Williams Center, on Monday, Aug. 22, from 6 to 8 p.m., and learn about Student Association activities.

Yard Games with Greek Life will be held at the Williams Center patio on Monday, Aug. 22, from 7 to 9 p.m. SUNY Fredonia’s social fraternities and sororities are hosting the event.

A Tie-Dye session, a new Welcome Week event hosted by Spectrum Entertainment, will be held at the Williams Center patio, weather permitting, on Tuesday, Aug. 23, from 6 p.m. to sundown, or until the supply of shirts lasts.

A Shrek movie night will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 24, in Dods Grove, beginning at 9 p.m. Popcorn will be provided. The screening will move to the Williams Center Multipurpose Room if it rains.

An ice cream social and yard games will be held at the Williams Center patio on Thursday, Aug. 25, beginning at 7 p.m. The Transfer Student Organization and Spectrum Entertainment are program hosts. The Williams Center Multipurpose Room is the alternate location in the event of rain.

Trivia Night will be held at the Williams Center Multipurpose Room on Friday, Aug. 26, beginning at 7 p.m. Prizes will be awarded and refreshments served.

The week’s final event, Karaoke/Open Mic Night, will be held on Saturday, Aug. 27, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room. Fredonia Field Hockey is the program host.

Fredcards are to be shown at Welcome Week check-ins.
