In its ongoing commitment to safety and preparedness, SUNY Fredonia will conduct a campus-wide lockdown drill on Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 10:15 a.m.
The drill is being coordinated by University Police and the Office of Environmental Health and Safety and Sustainability.
The exercise will test the university’s emergency notification system and the ability to manually secure classrooms, offices, and other occupied spaces.
“A lockdown drill is an important tool in preparing our campus community to respond quickly and effectively to a potential emergency,” said Charles J. Holder, emergency planning coordinator. “Practicing these procedures helps ensure that, should the need arise, everyone knows how to protect themselves and others.”
At the time of the drill, a NY-Alert notification will be sent to initiate the lockdown. The drill is expected to last approximately 15 minutes, with members of the campus safety team checking selected buildings for compliance. More details about the drill, including what everyone on campus should do, are available on the lockdown drill web page.
“Safety is our top priority at SUNY Fredonia,” said University Police Chief Gordon Carpenter. “By taking part in this drill, our faculty, staff, and students are contributing to a campus culture of readiness and care for one another.”
Faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to familiarize themselves with manual door-locking procedures in advance. To sign up for NY-Alert, visit fredonia.edu/NY alert.
