"Balm in Gilead," A gritty urban drama by Lanford Wilson, a Pulitzer Prize-winning American writer, will be the next offering in the Walter Gloor Mainstage Series at Fredonia from Feb. 27 through March 7 in Bartlett Theatre at Rockefeller Arts Center.
The Women’s Student Union will be hosting various free events throughout the month of March and the beginning of April in honor of Women’s “Herstory” Month, with the theme, “Women’s Herstory Month: Feminist Past, Present and Future.” Programs will review the history and progress of feminism over the years.
Fredonia’s Career Development Office (CDO) will host its annual Job and Internship Expo on Tuesday, March 10, from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room of the Williams Center. The event is free and open to current students as well as Fredonia alumni of any age. More than 70 employers will be on hand to discuss possible job openings and internships within their organizations.
Black History Month will be celebrated at Fredonia with events throughout the month. Week four will focus on, "Unveiling You!" The month's events are sponsored by the Student Association, Ethnic Studies program and the Black Student Union.
The Kaleidoscope Family Series at Rockefeller Arts Center will present “The Vocal Illusions of Lynn Trefzger, Comedy Ventriloquist” on Friday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. in Marvel Theatre.Trefzger is a ventriloquist/comedienne with a trunk full of zany characters that accompany her to stages throughout the country.
The second week of February at the School of Music will feature several events showcasing the talents of Fredonia faculty members and guests artists of international acclaim. All events are free and open to the public.
Welcome Week will serve up a wide variety of activities spanning four evenings at the Williams Center to help launch the 2015 spring term at Fredonia, with the free events open to students and sponsored by the Student Association.
International Education Week was originally scheduled for late November 2014, but events were cancelled due to the massive Western New York snow storm. The celebration has been rescheduled for the week of Jan. 26. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to participate in rescheduled and new events offered by the Office of International Education to promote diversity and global education.
Registration is now open for the spring sessions of Pathways to Music, a series of developmentally age-appropriate classes designed to teach the joy of music to children ages 6 months through 5 years old. Classes will begin Feb. 10 and 14, 2015, in the gymnasium of the Campus and Community Children’s Center.
A unique take on a Christmas classic will be offered at Fredonia when the Department of Theatre and Dance presents “It’s A Wonderful Life – The Radio Play” from Dec. 5 to 13. Seven performances are planned in Bartlett Theatre on the Fredonia campus as part of the 2014-15 Walter Gloor Mainstage Series.
