The School of Music will be hosting a piano recital by Emeritus Professor Robert Jordan and his former students on Sunday March 8 at 4 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall. In addition, Jordan will offer a piano master class on Monday March 9 at 2 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall.
The Fredonia School of Music continues its tradition of ensemble touring this spring with a March 10 to 13 Fredonia Wind Ensemble Tour to Long Island, under the direction of Dr. Paula Holcomb. The wind ensemble will visit five school music programs during the four-day tour.
The Children’s Concert Series continues its ninth season with the Fredonia School of Music trombone quartet on Saturday, March 7 at the Dunkirk Free Library. Performances will be at 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
Fredonia’s In Sight/On Site program will bring two contemporary sculptures to campus in 2015. Steven Siegel, who utilizes pre-consumer and recycled materials such as crushed soda cans, empty milk containers and shredded rubber, will be assisted on site by Fredonia students in the sculpture creation, “We are the Landscape.” The second work to be installed is a metal sculpture by Albert Paley.

Fredonia School of Music faculty members Joe Dan Harper, tenor, and pianist Dr. Anne Kissel will present Franz Schubert’s celebrated song collection, “Winterreise,” on Sunday, Feb. 22, at 8 p.m., in Rosch Recital Hall. “Winterreise” tells the story of a heartbroken wanderer whose unrequited love propels him on a journey through a frigid psychological landscape of deception and loss.
Broadway will come to the School of Music at Fredonia when Judy Kuhn, a three-time Tony Award nominee, conducts a master class with seven students majoring in either Musical Theatre or Vocal Performance on Saturday, Feb. 28, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Mason Hall Room 1080.
A variety of educational presentations – all geared to promote music therapy as a profession and raise public understanding of music therapy is and how it benefits clients – will be given at Fredonia during Music Therapy Awareness Week, March 2 to 6, at several campus locations.
The Western New York Chamber Orchestra, a professional ensemble-in-residence at Fredonia, will present, “Miraculous Miracles II,” featuring School of Music faculty members, guitarist James Piorkowski, soprano Julie Newell, harpist Sonja Inglefield and woodwind artist Sarah Hamilton as guest soloists. They will perform Friday, Feb. 6, at 7:30 p.m., at the Orchard Park Presbyterian Church, and Sunday, Feb. 8, at 4 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall.
Under the supervision of Fredonia dance faculty Sam Kenney and Angelika Summerton, 18 students from the Department of Theatre and Dance had the opportunity to attend the American College Dance Festival Conference at Ohio University from Feb. 28 to March 2.
